PECE-18

Sustainable Production & Consumption (SCP) in the EECCA Region

Workshops are scheduled in Kyiv, Ukraine and Tbilisi, Georgia, 17-19 April 2007, to evaluate national and sub-regional progress in Eastern Europe and South Caucasus on SCP policy development following Kiev-2003 EfE decisions; support the European Environment Bureau EcoForum at the Belgrade 2007 Environment Ministers Conference and establish an NGO forum to track UN Commission on Sustainable Development SCP cross-cutting issues to 2010 and beyond, thus bringing the EECCA countries into the international SCP framework. In addition, demonstrating the  sustainability and cost-effectiveness of video-conferencing.
PECE-17 Enhancing biodiversity and ecotourism in Russia The overall purpose of the project is to improve biodiversity conservation and to promote ecosystem services provided by protected areas (PAs) through education, capacity building and sustainable tourism development in PAs in Russia.
PECE-16 Open Dialogue between Government, Industry & Civil Society A conference and workshops scheduled in Mariupol, Ukraine, 19-22 September 2006, aim to provide a focal point in which to review the present status and potential of multi--sectoral co-operation, as a template for the EECCA, identifying barriers and proposing new approaches to more effective environmental management for sustainable development of the region.
PECE-15 Ukraine Sustainable Energy Management Toolkit To develop a toolkit to assist municipalities and major private sector companies save energy and make use of renewable energy sources.
PECE-14 Sustainable Water Demand Management: Phase 1 Pilot Project, Lviv Using state of the art technology developed in the UK to minimise leakage from water systems, significantly reducing economic and environmental losses.
PECE-13 Introducing biodiversity as a subject in schools Reaching out to the young people of Belarus, to help ensure the long-term survival of their national heritage, by addressing this gap in their education system.
PECE-12 Air Quality Management in Moscow and London Addressing the health and environmental issues associated with poor air quality currently being experienced in Moscow, London and most other large cities where emissions from transport and industry are polluting the air.
PECE-11 Education for Sustainable Development and Climate Change Reducing carbon dioxide emissions by schools in Russia,, enhancing teachers’ and young peoples’ meaningful understanding of climate change and energy issues.
PECE-10 Sustainable Waste Management in Azerbaijan Establishing a sustainable waste management scheme (collection, transport and disposal) in at least one Azeri community along the BTC pipeline.
PECE-09 Joining up Environment Stakeholders Forum for discussion between public and private sectors and civil society to establish co-operation on environmental issues in Russia.
PECE-08 Eco Footprints - communicating sustainable development Interactive exhibition to allow general public in Russia to measure their impact on the environment and find out how they can reduce this.
PECE-07 Education for Sustainability and Climate Change in Central Asia Educate teachers in Central Asia about importance of reducing carbon dioxide emissions, and provide them with the right resources to teach this to their students, including energy saving light bulbs for schools.
PECE-06 Building Capacity for Biodiversity Conservation in Eastern Europe and Central Asia Train biodiversity practitioners from across the EECCA region through active participation in Wetlands project in Belarus.
PECE-05 Small river basin management in the steppe zone of Southern Russia: Scoping Study Better management of the Kundruchiya River so that the people of Rostov Oblast in Russia, and other towns along the river have access to cleaner water.
PECE-04 Accredited Training for Local Government Officers in Sakhalin Giving local government officials skills needed to work effectively with private sector and civil society on sustainable development.
PECE-03 Donetsk Business Commitment to the Environment Phase 2 Developing environmental awareness and capacity of businesses in one of the most heavily industrialised regions of Ukraine - and also one of the world’s most polluting industrial areas.
PECE-02 Azerbaijan Renewable Energy Partnership Use of renewable energy technology in Azerbaijan to improve the quality of life for communities living along the country’s oil pipelines.
